Chumash Abuhav Large and Beautiful Volume Bomberg. Venice 1548 * A large and thick Chumash, with impressive and elegant print, one of the finest works from the renowned press of Daniel Bomberg in Venice. The Five Books of the Torah, Targum Onkelos, the commentary of Rashi and the Ramban with the commentary of Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav on the commentary of the Ramban, the Five Megillos, and Haftaros. A distinguished and elegant printing – a large, impressive volume with wide margins. At its end are the Haftaros for the entire year, according to the customs of both Sefardim and Ashkenazim, with a separate title page. Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav the Second (1433-1493) was one of the great Sephardic sages during the era of the Spanish Expulsion and was thus renowned as “the last gaon of Castile”. The Beis Yosef cites his words in his sefer Beis Yosef and commonly refers to him as “Rabbeinu HaGadol” since he was “the luminary of the Jews in exile” (Beis Yosef Orach Chaim, siman 168) and “greater than all the people of his generation” (Shu”t HaRalbach, siman 122), and also because he was the teacher of Rabbi Yaakov Beirav, the Beis Yosef's teacher. He passed away about seven months after the Expulsion. His work was first printed on its own, without the Chumash, in Constantinople in 1525 and it appears here for the first time appended to the Ramban. Venice 1548.
