Selichos Shapira Press Zhitomir, 1856 * Selichos in Ashkenazic-Polish rite, Printed by the renowned Shapira brothers, grandsons of the rabbi of Slavita Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heshel Shapira in the famed Shapira printing press in Zhitomir. An extremely rare Selichos, not found in the National Library in Jerusalem. Printed with large letters in dark ink. New brown leather binding adorned with gold designs. Includes Selichos for the month of Elul and Erev Rosh Hashanah; Tzom Gedalya; Aseres Yemei Teshuvah; as well as the full order of Selichos for Yom Kippur, including Ne’ilah. Sefarim printed by the legendary Shapira family, descendants of the saintly Admor Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz, were cherished by tzaddikim and chassidim. Many Chassidic tzaddikim specifically sought to pray from these siddurim and machzorim, which were printed in sanctity and purity. The Shomer Emunim wrote: ”A person should accustom himself to study from a sefer printed by G-d-fearing men, as occurred with one of the tzaddikim who came to a certain place during the days of Selichos. They handed him a Selichos, and he said he could not see the letters. They brought him several other versions, [but he still could not see the letters] – until they gave him a Selichos printed by people with Yiras Shamayim.… and then he said, ”Now I can see the letters.” Therefore, every G-d-fearing person should make an effort to acquire sefarim printed in old printing presses, which were most often printed by the G-d-fearing, particularly those of the Slavita and Zhitomir presses, by the grandchildren of the holy Rav of Koritz, who were exalted and holy printers (Taharas HaKodesh, ch. 6) Zhitomir, 1856 Shapira Press.
