One of the Most Important Kabbalistic Siddurim. Siddur with the Kavanos of the Arizal. Zolkiew, 1781 * An order of prayers for the entire year, with the kavanos of the Arizal. This is the classic kabbalistic siddur in which the Arizal’s kavanos were printed in their complete form and interwoven into the text of the prayers themselves. This was the first siddur printed according to the well-known chassidic Nusach Sefard, (such as having Hodu before Baruch She’amar and Kesser by Kedusha). The siddur was warmly received in chassidic communities, and the leading disciples of the Baal Shem Tov and their chassidim prayed from it. The great Kabbalist Rabbi Moshe Osterer, head of the circle of mekubalim in the kloiz of Brody, addressed the importance of this siddur in his approbation. He explains that although the kavanos of prayer had already been printed in the sefer Mishnas Chassidim, they appeared either on their own or at the bottom of the page, “not in the place of the nusach of the prayer, ” which made it difficult to maintain proper kavanah during tefillah. This siddur resolved that difficulty by placing the kavanos directly within the flow of the prayers. This volume is the earliest of the well-known kabbalistic siddurim printed in Eastern Europe. It predates the Siddur of Rabbi Asher (Lvov, 1788), the Siddur of Rabbi Shabsai (Koritz, 1795), and the Siddur of Rabbi Kapil (Slavita, 1804). The wording on the title page states: “And one who sets his heart to this, to pray from this siddur… his prayers will not return empty.” Zolkiew, 1781 Page Count: [7], 144, 143–192, [2] leaves. Size: 22 cm. Condition: Good. Some water stains and stains of use; in the pages of the Pesach Haggadah some wine stains. Original worn leather binding.
