The Zohar of Reb Yeshayale of Kerestir Warsaw, 1867 * Zohar on Chumash Bereishis in which the holy tzaddik and baal chesed Rabbi Yeshayale Kerestirer toiled and studied the hidden parts of the Torah. Signs of use are evident; on leaf 60a there is wax that dripped from a candle, likely from the very candle that Reb Yeshayale used during his nighttime learning in this sefer. On the title page, beside the heading Sefer HaZohar, is written: “R’ Yeshaya Steiner.” Above the frame, another inscription appears: “R’ Yeshaya Depoh” (R’ Yeshaya from here). Further on the title page is the stamp of his son's son-in-law, the Admor Rabbi Meir Yosef Rubin of Kerestir (see below). Rabbi Yeshaya Steiner (1852-1925), known far and wide as Reb Yeshaya’le Kerestirer , was a paragon of holiness, loving-kindness and charity who performed miracles and wonders for the masses who streamed to Kerestir to encounter him and to receive his blessings, which were always fulfilled. His door was open to every Jew, and many regularly ate at his table. He distributed colossal sums of money for charity, following the path of his rebbes — the Sanzer Rebbe and Rabbi Tzvi Hersh of Liska. To this day, thousands of Jews travel to his holy resting place in Kerestir seeking mercy and salvation. On the title page appears the stamp of the Admor Rabbi Meir Yosef Rubin of Kerestir, Hy”d (1864–1944) , son-in-law of his son, Rabbi Avraham of Kerestir. He led the chassidus in Kerestir from 1927 for seventeen years, until he was murdered in Auschwitz. He had been supported at the table of his grandfather-in-law for six years, who, before his passing, hinted that the mantle of leadership was destined for him. Like his forebear, Rabbi Avraham was known for bringing about great salvations. (See the accounts of his wondrous deeds in the sefer of his disciple R. M. Y.
