Lombroso Tanach Hebrew Commentary with Ladino by Rabbi Yaakov Lombroso First and Only Edition.  Venice, 1639. * Tanach with the Commentary of Rabbi Yaakov Lombroso with Explanations in Ladino A remarkable Tanach edition distinguished by a rare commentary, printed only once and never reprinted. One of the earliest editions of Tanach featuring commentary in Ladino . Torah, Nevi'im and Kesuvim with a concise yet comprehensive commentary, explaining difficult words both in Lashon Hakodesh and in Ladino.  Authored by the sage Rabbi Yaakov Lombroso of Venice, a disciple of the Kabbalist Rabbi Menachem Azariah of Pano, as related in the introduction. At the beginning of the sefer is an extensive preface titled Melo Kaf Nachas, devoted to principles of interpretation and rules of Hebrew grammar. Girondi writes that grammarians greatly praised this introduction (Toldos Gedolei Yisrael, Trieste, 1853, p. 201). At the beginning of Kesuvim appears a preface on the unique cantillation (ta'amim) of the books of Iyov, Mishlei and Tehillim, and at the end, there are concluding remarks by the first proofreader, Avraham Chaver Tov. Included is an approbation and a poem in praise of the work and its author by Rabbi Yehuda Aryeh of Modena. In his approbation, Rabbi Yehuda Aryeh laments that, in his youth as a disciple of Rabbi Shmuel Arkevolti, author of Arugas HaBosem, all Jews—especially in Italy—were proficient in Hebrew grammar. Now, non-Jewish scholars have surpassed Jewish sages in this field. This shift highlights Rabbi Yehuda Aryeh's commitment to Hebrew scholarship and his concern for its preservation. Venice, 1639.
