The sefer HaEmunos VeHadeios was the first published work to thoroughly elucidate the principles of Jewish belief. It contains all the profound tenets of Jewish philosophy according to the Torah, and all subsequent works of Jewish thought draw from this monumental work, including the works of the Rambam and the Ramban. Rabbi Saadia Gaon of Sura (d. 942) was among the most influential Geonim, leaving a profound impact on all later Torah scholarship. During his lifetime, the Jewish faith faced serious challenges due to the rise of new Judeo-movements like the Karaites. In response, Rabbi Saadia Gaon vigorously opposed these movements, defending traditional Jewish beliefs. His steadfast efforts were so significant that the Rambam wrote in his Iggeres Teiman that, if not for Rabbi Saadia Gaon, ”The religion of Hashem would almost have been lost.” Constantinople, 1562.
