Handwritten Letter by Rabbi Naftali Tropp, Rosh Yeshiva of Radin , 1927 * A handwritten letter of recommendation by the Rosh Yeshivah of Radin, Rabbi Naftali Tropp, on behalf of a student. Rabbi Naftali Tropp (1871-1930) was one of the great Lithuanian Roshei Yeshivah whose penetrating lomdus (analytical teachings) has become a cornerstone of the yeshiva world. His chiddushim, published in Chiddushei HaGranat, are staples of every yeshivah library. Rabbi Naftali Tropp was a disciple of both Rabbi Eliezer Gordon of Telz and Rabbi Itzeleh of Ponovezh, and he absorbed mussar from the Alters of Kelm, Novardok and Slabodka. In 1904, he was called by the Chofetz Chaim to Radin to assume the position of Rosh Yeshivah in his yeshivah. Numbering among Rabbi Naftali’s disciples in Radin were revered gedolei hador such as Rabbi Shlomo Heiman, Rabbi Eliyahu Dushnitzer and the Ponevezher Rav, Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman. Rabbi Naftali wrote very little and there are hardly any known letters written by him. Editors of the Machon Oraysa Edition of Chiddushei HaGranat wrote that they were unable to find a single handwritten letter of his other than a partial paragraph of one letter (Introduction, pg. 61). The letter is a warm recommendation on behalf of a bachur who spent two years learning in Radin and wished to continue learning in Eretz Yisrael. Radin, 1927 .
