A Holy Letter by Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam of Shinova, Author of Divrei Yechezkel * A historic and lengthy letter concerning efforts to restore peace in the Kossov-Vizhnitz Kollel, from the Admor Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam of Shinova, the Divrei Yechezkel. The letter concludes with heartfelt blessings from the Rebbe: “And the Master of rewards shall pay your deed and your reward shall be complete from Hashem in Heaven, to protect and save you from all affliction and misfortune, trouble and distress, for you and your household... May you be blessed from the one who is the source of all blessing and may you rise higher and higher in happiness and success.” In the last line, the Rebbe added in his holy handwriting: “And due to my many preoccupations, my work was done by others. From…the one who awaits the peace of Israel and good tidings among Klal Yisrael.” Background to the letter: The Shinover Rebbe one of the foremost leaders devoted to the welfare of the yishuv of Eretz Yisrael. He worked extensively for the benefit of Eretz Yisrael's yishuv, and therefore became involved in making peace between the kollelim. The Vizhnitz Kollel was headed by the Admor Rabbi Baruch of Vizhnitz and the Kossov Kollel was headed by his nephew the Admor Rabbi Moshe of Kossov. The separation of the kollelim into different districts caused division, and from time to time disputes arose about the methods of distribution. In particular, the members protested about unfair distribution and discrimination. In his letter, the Rebbe requests from Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Horowitz, Av Beis Din of Stryj, author of Harei Besamim (who received semicha from his father the Divrei Chaim) to establish a Beis Din together with the Gaon of Lvov (Rabbi Yitzchak Shmelkes, author of Beis Yitzchak) and both sides should come before them and they will decide the matter according to Din Torah. The Shinover Rebbe, Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam (1815-1899), author of Divrei Yechezkel, was the eldest son of the Admor Rabbi Chaim of Sanz. He was an illustrious and world-renown leader, with thousands of followers. He worked extensively for Klal Yisrael in general and for the inhabitants of Eretz Yisrael in particular. ”He was a tzaddik who sustained the world. All the accomplishments of the tzaddikim of the generation are all through the power of the tzaddik of the generation. From him flows parnassah and yiras shamayim and tahara. This was the tzaddik of the generation, the holy elder, about whom we said, ”In his shadow we shall live” and the whole world answered after him ”Holy, Holy”. There was no one like him after him, in his generation” (from Even Shleima by the Gaon Hakadosh of Shamloi, Parshas Vayechi).
