The price at Israel Coins and Medals Corp.- $3540 The first Israeli experimental satellite, Offeq-1, was launched into Space during Israel's 40th year of statehood. Offeq-1 was launched into Space one day before Yom Kippur, 5749 (19.9.1988, 11:32 AM) by the Israeli Shavit launcher. Its mission was to test ability to enter into orbit; generation of solar energy; transmission reception from Space; resistance of its systems in a weightless vacuum; and characteristics of the Earth's magnetic field. Offeq-1 orbited the Earth once every 90 minutes. The closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit (perigee) was 248 km. and the farthest (apogee) was 1,170 km.
