Large Apulian red-figure knob-handled patera of the Perrone-Phrixos Group from the Dareios-Underworld Workshop. - Large Apulian red-figure knob-handled patera of the Perrone-Phrixos Group from the Dareios-Underworld Workshop. 340 - 330 BC. Height 16,8cm, width with handles 46,9cm, ΓΈ mouth 42,9cm. Offering bowl with two vertical Omega handles, thereon three conical knobs on each. Rim and inside all covered in black, on it in Gnathia technique with white decor, on the rim egg-and-dart, inside a vine-tendril. Outside red-figure figures and large ornaments with palmettes. On one side a young sitting woman with tainia and offering bowl between a girl with mirror and an Eros with wreath and grape. On the other side a sitting Eros with bird between two girls holding a tainia, offering bowl and a large box. Rich usage of white and yellow for the details. The hollow areas covered with a slightly reddish brown slip. Beautiful figural style! With copy of the catalogue of the Grisebach-auction! Reassembled from large fragments, two small missing parts retouched. Formerly in the property of Mrs. and Mr. Becchina. After judicial decision the vase is without limitation tradeable in the area of the European Union.
