Shabti of Ineni. - Shabti of Ineni. New Kingdom, 18th dynasty, reign of Thutmose I, 1504 - 1491 BC. H 20cm. Wood (probably sycomore), with remains of polychrome paint. Finely crafted face with a tripartite wig. The chest is adorned with a broad, multi-jointed collar. The elaborate hands are clenched into fists on the stomach. Underneath, eight horizontal registers with the text of the 6th saying of the Book of the Dead in engraved hieroglyphics: Enlightenment to Osiris Ineni, the righteous, he says: O Shabti, when I am counted off to be assigned to the work to be done in the underworld, as a man in his duty of service, be it to make the field grow and to irrigate the shore and to remove the sand drifts of the east to the west.
