Sculptural group made of limestone consisting of two apes. - A somewhat flattened, round, sculptural group made of limestone consisting of two apes squatting opposite each other, kissing and embracing each other. Apparently a satirical work refering to the 'happy-famliy-propaganda' of Akhenaten. New Kingdom 18th dynasty, reign of Akhenaten, (1351 - 1335 BC). Ex Collection Prof. H.A.Schlögl acquired 2000 at Rupert Wace Ancient Art. Before Swiss private collection and collection of William Flinders Petrie (1853-1942).
