Statuette of goddess Mehit. - Statuette of goddess Mehit. New Kingdom, 19th dynasty, reign of Merenptah, ca. 1213 - 1204 BC. Cedar wood with remnants of gilding, H 30.2cm. Dedicated by General Onuris-mes. Lion-headed goddess crowned by a sun disc and uraeus serpent sits upright on a box throne with a back pillar extending from its short backrest. While the sides of the throne bear a scale-like pattern (falcon feathers?), the back, the back pillar and the base plate are richly decorated with hieroglyphs. With a rectangular opening in the base, probably for a relic or similar, with a corresponding locking pin.
