Apulian Chous of the Gnathiaware from the Spotted-Spray-Group. - Apulian Chous of the Gnathiaware from the Spotted-Spray-Group. 340 - 330 BC. H 14.8cm, ø 8.6cm. Black glazed ware with polychrome or white-yellow painting. Type 3 jug with treefoil mouth and ribbed corpus. The neck features a finely painted three-part frieze, centered on a theater mask in the shape of a woman's head between the eponymous dots and magnificent ivy tendrils. The upper end of the handle is adorned with a sculpted lion's head. Little gem of Gnathia painting! Tiny chip on the base ring, otherwise intact with sinter residue.
