Fragments of an Attic red-figure stamnos by Polygnotos. - Fragments of an Attic red-figure stamnos by Polygnotos. Parthenon Period, 440 - 430 BC. H 8.1cm and 13.2cm. Five fragments from the shoulder of the vessel, two and three of which are fitted and joined together. One piece depicts the head and outstretched left hand of a woman wearing a sakkos next to a volute and beneath a frieze of tongues. The other depicts the upper body of a woman dressed in chiton and himation. Both women wear a feather wreath in their hair, applied with white opaque paint. 2 pieces! With certificate from the Antiken-Kabinett Bernd Gackstätter! Both fragment groups with plexiglass stands. Once in the collection of the archaeologist Dr. Kurt Deppert (1926-1994).
