Marble torso of Aphrodite Anadyomene. - Marble torso of Aphrodite Anadyomene. Roman Imperial Period, 1st - 3rd century AD. H 51 cm. White, fine-crystalline marble. Aphrodite is depicted here at the moment after she has emerged from the sea and is wringing out her hair. The arms were therefore raised high and held the wet strands of hair up. The neck, left arm, and both legs are broken. The right arm, however, was crafted separately and attached. On the right hip there is a large, rectangular recess where an attendant figure, either a small Eros or a dolphin, was connected to the statue. Worn surface.
