Marble head of a young woman with sea encrustations. - Marble head of a young woman with sea encrustations. Roman Imperial period, 1st - 2nd century AD. H 26.5 cm. The piece is heavily overgrown, but the fine features of the portrait can still be clearly seen. It is hardly possible to make precise statements about a more specific dating. On the left side, one can make out a thick, combed-back hair roll, reminiscent of the fashion hairstyles of Faustina minor. The back of the head is flattened diagonally on the left side and has an insertion hole. Either a large hairpiece was attached here, or the piece was mounted on a relief background. At the left side of the forehead and behind a large piece is broken away.
