A Bronze Axe Head with Crouching Lion–Amlash Period, 1100–900 BC. Cast in bronze with a bluish-green encrustation, this axe head from the Amlash culture of ancient northwestern Iran features a dramatically curved blade, counterbalanced by a cylindrical socket for hafting. Clinging to the socket is a stylised crouching lion with defined paws and prominent facial features, embodying early zoomorphic symbolism.
