An Ottoman Red Silk Ka'aba Kiswah Textile with Islamic Calligraphy. A finely woven Ottoman red silk textile fragment from the Kiswah of the Ka'aba, richly embroidered with Islamic calligraphy. The chevron-form layout presents repeated inscriptions of the Shahada and Qur’anic verses, bordered with further calligraphic bands. The calligraphy is worked in bold white against a deep crimson silk ground, forming a striking geometric rhythm. Approximately 81 x 65cm Provenance: Private collection from a distinguished W London gentleman.
