An Islamic Glazed Ceramic Chess Piece, Possibly Fatimid 12th Century. A small Islamic glazed ceramic gaming piece, possibly a shatranj (chess) figure, modelled in a stylised abstract form typical of early Islamic figural minimalism. The piece is fashioned from a dense earthenware body and finished in a warm honey-yellow glaze with natural surface accretions and burial deposits. The upper section shows a simplified angular contour suggesting a horse’s head, rendered through subtle ridges and incised linear detailing, while the lower portion forms a rounded cylindrical base consistent with early Islamic chess-piece construction.
