The surface is richly decorated with dense scrolling motifs in relief, framing the facial features and extending across the forehead and cheeks. A central raised element sits above the brow, flanked by symmetrical ornament. The sides are formed with prominent ear-like projections, each pierced for attachment. The reverse reveals the hollow construction, with a darker tone contrasting the gilt front, and showing the underlying structure of the relief work.
