McCarthy, Cormac. Blood Meridan 1st Edition REVIEW - McCarthy, Cormac. Blood Meridian Or The Evening Redness In The West. New York: Random House [1985]. An advance review copy of the first edition, first printing (Not a Remaindered). First Edition. 8vo. Review copy with review slip loose inside front flap. Two-tone red cloth with red paper over boards, [10], 337pp. Fine, bright, unread copy in fine dust jacket. Housed in a full-imitation leather clamshell case with the books dust jacket's front panel duplicated on the front panel, with the spine panel and rear panel also matching the dust jacket. The first book in McCarthy's ”Southwestern Period”. Loosely based on historical events, the novel shows a fictitious 14-year-old boy called only ”the kid”, born in 1833, as he drifts through the Southwest. He soon joins an outlaw band of Indian hunters who have been hired by a Mexican governor to return Apache scalps at $100 apiece. These misfits-including an ex=priest, a man with initials tattooed on his forehead and a mysterious, erudite judge have a real taste for blood and death. An Exceptional copy. Not price clipped ($17.95 price top right inside front flap), without remainder marks protected in mylar. Provenance: Estate collection of an advanced collector, Fort Collins, Colorado. This lot measures 9.5 x 6.625 x 2 inches for shipping purposes.
