At the end of the war, the country could not afford to mint silver coins, so the Ministry of Finance issued an order to issue emergency coins. The coins were made of aluminum-copper - a cheap material that France could afford after the war. The coins had the inscription ”Bon pour” (”Good for...”). From this it was clear that these were not official French money, but only emergency coins
