A large purple rectangular marking: ”WAR ORGANISATION OF THE BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY / R & D CORPS POSTAL MESSAGE SCHEME / AND ORDER OF ST. JOHN OF JERUSALEM” – indicates that this is a letter sent as part of an official British Red Cross and Order of St. John postal activity. ”TO PAY 3 MILS” marking on the right side indicates a postage charge of 3 mils.
