An official State gold medal issued to commemorate the historic signing of the Israel–Egypt Peace Treaty in Washington, D.C., on March 26, 1979. The treaty was signed by Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, in the presence of U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Obverse: The sun, symbolizing hope, rises above Mount Sinai. Around the design appears the biblical verse “And I will give peace in the land” (Leviticus 26:6) in Hebrew, English and Arabic. Design: Zvi Narkiss; Engraving: Kretschmer. Reverse: The word “Peace” appears in the center in Hebrew, Arabic and English, with the dates 5739, 1399 and 1979 below.
