The fierce female figure stands amid forest scenery, dressed in layered kimono with disheveled hair and holding a blade. Yama-uba is a legendary mountain spirit known for her wild nature and for raising the heroic boy Kintarō (“Golden Boy”). Attributed to the Utagawa School—possibly by a follower of Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) or Utagawa Kuniyoshi—this work exemplifies the bold yet elegant dramatic expression of mid-to-late Edo woodblock prints, with refined color tones and stylized linework.
