Ganesha is depicted seated upon his traditional rat vahana (mount), holding symbolic attributes associated with wisdom, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles. The richly decorated crown and surviving gilding enhance the figure’s artistic appeal. Height: 13 cm (5.1 in). In Hindu tradition, Ganesha is revered as the remover of obstacles and the deity of wisdom and good fortune. This sculpture is an attractive example of Indian devotional art, suitable for collectors of Asian art, ethnographic sculpture, and Hindu antiquities. Believed to date to the 18th century or earlier.
