An exceptionally large Chinese sculpture, hand-carved from organic material, depicting a ”Landscape with Scholars, ” mounted on an impressive bridge-shaped wooden base, China, second half of the 20th century - A magnificent traditional Chinese landscape carving depicting towering mountains, pagodas, pine trees, cranes (symbolizing longevity) and carefully crafted figures of sages and children, personifying harmony, wisdom and prosperity. The central architectural scene evokes the tranquil solitude of a scholar. The piece is mounted on an intricately crafted stand reminiscent of stylized swirling clouds. The inset panel on the front has a Chinese inscription: 「赐富开誉」, which translates as ”Granting wealth and opening the path to glory” - a traditional blessing for prosperity and honor.
