A Late Victorian Black Slate and Marble Mantel Clock - A Late Victorian or French Neo-Classical architectural mantel clock, constructed primarily of polished black slate and marble. The case features a stepped rectangular base supporting a central section flanked by four columns with partial gilt metal accents. The top is finished with a curved pediment. The clock is decorated throughout with fine, incised gilt scrolling foliate ornamentation. Below the pediment, a rectangular patinated bronze relief plaque depicts four classical or mythological figures in action, highlighted with gilt detailing. A small, indistinct marking is visible beneath the figures on the plaque. The circular dial features a tarnished brass bezel, black Roman numerals, and two winding apertures set against a cream and gilt ground. The interior reveals a brass movement with coiled gong wires.
