Paddy field, bamboo field Author's name (reading) Mizuta Takeho Artist's name (English) MIZUTA, Chikuho Birth year 1883 Birth year (Japanese calendar) Meiji 16 Death year: 1958 Death year (calendar) 1958 Biography/Description Born in Osaka, he was the eldest son of Mizuta Toyojiro. His real name was Tadashi, and other names included Manbikyo, Sekisuido, Mizutakekyo, and Yuchian. In 1897 (Meiji 30), he studied Nanga under Himejima Takekai, and also studied Kokugaku under Ito Keio. In 1903 (Meiji 36), he exhibited landscape paintings at the Fifth National Industrial Exhibition. In 1912 (Meiji 45), he visited China and honed his painting skills. In 1912 (Taisho 1), he was selected for the first time and won the prize at the 6th Bunten. After winning prizes at the 8th and 9th Bunten, he won the prize at the 10th Bunten in 1916 (Taisho 5). "Early Spring" was selected as a special selection.
