A LARGE ICON SHOWING ST. JOHN THE THEOLOGIAN FROM A ROYAL DOOR IKONOSTASENTÜR Russian, circa 1600 Russland, um 1600 Egg tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Both figures, St. John the Theologian with his disciple Prochoros, seated on the island of Patmos. Against a cave on a rocky landscape. The blue winged lion, the Apocalyptic Personification of St. John, appearing in the open segment of heaven above. The background and border stripped to gesso, the lower border added, partially restored. 65.6 x 48.3 cm.
