Giladi, born in the city of Homel, Belarus, was a talented artist from a young age. After studying painting at the Academy of Arts in Petrograd, he became involved in the Zionist youth movement, Hashomer Hatzair, which led to his arrest and exile to Siberia. Upon his release in 1929, he arrived in Israel and joined a Hashomer Hatzair group at Kibbutz Kinneret, and in 1932, he helped establish Kibbutz Afikim. At the kibbutz, Giladi worked in various manual labor roles such as plasterer, builder, and painter, but he never abandoned his love for art. He built a studio for himself and painted in the evenings after a long day’s work.
