Bidspirit auction | Mahmoud, Anubis as a Recumbent

Mahmoud, Anubis as a Recumbent Jackal on a Ceremonial Plinth, Papyrus Painting (Signed) - This hand-painted Egyptian papyrus artwork, signed by the artist Mahmoud in Arabic script, depicts the deity Anubis as a recumbent jackal resting atop a ceremonial funerary shrine or plinth. The figure is rendered in deep blue and black opaque pigments with gold-toned accents on the ears and collar. To the left of the deity is a vertical cartouche containing the prenomen of Pharaoh Thutmose III, featuring a blue scarab beetle and a red sun disk. The base of the plinth is decorated with a horizontal register of various hieroglyphic symbols. The artwork is executed on a traditional papyrus support characterized by naturally frayed and deckled edges. The piece is presented within a double mount of cream and maroon, housed in a wooden frame with a textured gold-tone finish. A lot tag from Liskeard Auction Rooms (Lot 964) is attached to the frame.
