Bidspirit auction | Vintage British Government Hardwood Spirit

Vintage British Government Hardwood Spirit Level with Broad Arrow Mark - A mid-20th-century spirit level constructed from a dense hardwood, likely mahogany or beech, featuring a weathered red stain finish. The tool is designed with a central finger grip groove and incorporates a flush-mounted metal end plate at one extremity, secured with two screws. The top edge houses a glass spirit vial set within a metal housing. The body of the level is heavily marked with government and service stamps. On one side, characters are impressed into the wood reading 70-5425 above 968, followed by a broad arrow (pheon) mark, denoting British government or military property. The reverse side features further stamped characters reading CPL REV MARCH. The construction suggests industrial or military field service use, featuring two circular apertures of differing diameters passing through the body.
