Description:
Extremely Rare Pictured Hook Bannerstone, Warrick Co. Indiana. Dickey & Motley COA's. Pictured numerous times. Ex Collections of: Ed Payne, Joseph Geringer, Earl Townsend, Tom Davis, Dave Lutz, Brandon Vanderver. Made from a beautifully colored form of quartz with lots of transluceny. Incredible high polish. Originally found by Charles E. Hepp near Boonville Indiana, purchased from him by Edward Payne in the 1920's. Joseph Gerringer bought from Payne in the 1930's (Gerringer cat. #88) Earl Townsend bought it from Gerringer on 10-28-1949 (#236 in Townsend's catalog) Then to Tom Davis, and onto Dave Lutz, and finally to Brandon Vanderver in 2016. First Pictured in 1917 in Mooreheads Stone Ornaments on page 236. Later pictured in the Illinois Arch Journal Volume #1 1950 on page 63; Central States Vol#1 1955 #3 page 116; Townsend Birdstone Book in 1959 on page 94; Legends #1 page 51 & pg 229; Legends #2 page 124; CSAJ 2014 #4 page 195; Who's Who #12 page 670. Less than 30 Hook Banners are known to exist. A very rare chance to own such a scarce piece of ancient art!
