Mikhail Larionov (Russian, Soviet, French, 1881-1964), Tea in the Garden, 1914. Pencil on thin cream paper mounted on board. Signed by the artist and dated on the lower left. Matted and framed. Provenance: Swann Galleries, DISCOVERY SALE 06.28.2012, lot 216. Footnote: Mikhail Larionov was a painter, graphic artist, book illustrator, theater artist. Studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, 1898–1910, intermittently, under A. E. Arkhipov, V. A. Serov and K. A. Korovin. Initiator of the opening of the first exhibition Bubnovy Valet or Jack of Diamonds, 1910, exhibitions Osliny Khvost or Donkey's Tail, 1912, Mishen' or Target, 1913, Futurists, Luchists, Primitives, 1914. The creator of the theory of Luchism - one of the first experiments in non-objective art. One of the leading artists of S. P. Diaghilev's entreprise. From 1919 he lived permanently in Paris.
