A RUSSIAN ORTHODOX SILVER GILT AND CHAMPLEVE ENAMEL ICON, 19TH C.
A Russian Orthodox icon representing The Mother of God of Kazan hand-painted in oil on a zinc panel. Housed in a gilt-silver oklad adorned with polychrome champleve enamel patterns. The icon shows the Virgin with her head slightly inclined towards the Infant Christ at her left. The Christ Child is depicted in a frontal pose, raising his right hand in a blessing while his left hand is covered by the folds of his himation. Hallmarks: 84 Imperial Russian silver standard, crossed anchors for St. Petersburg, maker's mark "AB, " possibly for Vekman Andrey Vilhelm.
Circa: 1860-1884.
