A PAIR OF FRENCH GILT BRONZE FIGURAL GROUPS, SIGNED CLODION, 19TH C.

After Michel Claude Clodion (1738 - 1814)

Second half 19th century, two ormolu figural groups with Bacchanalia scenes, one with male and the other with female satyr among frolicking infants with vine chaplets, cymbals and fruit-filled tambourines. Both are signed, 'Clodion, ' and raised on circular cherry marble bases.

Excellent detail and quality.

Footnote: Claude Michel Clodion was a French Rococo sculptor. Noted for his versatility as an artist and for the lively charm of his figures, which included Grecian nymphs, cherubs, and gods, Clodion was both popular and celebrated in his day.
