AN ART NOUVEAU SILVER-PLATED AND ENGRAVED LIDDED EWER, GERMANY, 1906
With dramatic fluting to the tapered glass body and striking repoussé decoration throughout the silver-plating, the spout being shaped as a swan's beak and the lid having a finial reminiscent of the helmet of a Roman Centurion. The lid is inscribed with the date '15 October 1906' as well as what appears to be the partially obscured name of an association in the town of Friesen in Alsace 'Der F[..]nverein Friesen.'. Alsace has, since the end of WW1, been considered a part of France, though at the time it was in the control of the German Empire.
Alsace, 1906.
