A RUSSIAN NONCONFORMISM HAND-COLORED AND SIGNED ETCHING BY SERGEI POTAPOV, 1987 - Sergei Potapov (Russian, born 1947), a color etching with hand coloring Untitled, 1987. Signed and dated by the artist at the lower left corner in Russian. Also signed and dated in English and Russian beneath the work. From the series of (In Search of a Human) Sergei Potapenko was born in 1947 in Riga, in the family of an architect. In 1970, he graduated from the Moscow Higher Art and Industrial School (formerly Stroganovskoe). Accepted to the Moscow Art Museum only in 1988. The first personal exhibition (DK named after Kurchatov, Moscow) took place in 1980 and was closed on the third day by the special services. Exhibition activity resumed in 1988 (”Pavel Filonov, Dmitry Grynevich, Sergey Potapov. Three nonconformist artists from Russia”, Washington). In his works, Sergey Potapov develops a personal artistic style, ”post-symbolism”, based on the traditions of European symbolism and the Russian cultural and historical heritage. Works are kept in private collections in Russia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Switzerland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Great Britain, USA, Canada, Japan.
