AN EDOUARD DETAILLE (1848-1912) PAINTING OF FRENCH SOLDIERS DURING FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR - By Edouard Detaille (1848-1912), a French painter famed for his vivid and detailed depictions of the French military. This painting shows two French infantrymen during the Franco-Prussian war (1870-1871), one kneeling and the other standing. Both wearing the characteristic bright red pantaloons and kepis of the era.
