AN INSCRIBED DAGGER WITH A SCULPTED BRONZE GRIP AND CLAMSHELL GUARD, CA. 17TH CEN. - The handle being of molded bronze with a spiraling design, tapering towards the guard, which is of a clamshell type, decoratively pierced and chased, also having a spacer shaped as the finial of a Greek column. The blade bears an inscription along its fuller on each side, the text being only partially legible now. Some cleaning could reveal the full text, which is in a style consistent with examples from the 17th century. Continental Europe, likely Italy, 17th Century. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
