A LARGE PERSIAN AZERBAIJAN QUADARA DAGGER SHORT SWORD WITH ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY, C. 19TH CEN. - A large Persian Quadara dagger of the type commonly used by Shia Muslims during the observance of Ashura. This example has its surface almost entirely chased with Arabic lettering from guard to tip. The handle is comprised of two horn grip scales set with bone inlay. The piece is kept within a wooden scabbard lined with black leather and set with ornately embossed brass mounts. Persia, C. 19th Century. Please make all inquiries before bidding. Condition: Blade appears to be in good condition overall, with etched Arabic inscriptions well preserved. Grip scales with some signs of age and use, one scaled with a small chip. Scabbard with some loss to leather. Some damage to tip of scabbard.
