A CARVED AND GILT WOODEN CATHOLIC GARGOYLE FIGURE, C. 17TH CENTURY - An unusual carved wooden gargoyle figure in the Gothic style, with a detailed, beastly face and wings shaped like filigree scrollwork. The wings, face, and claws of the beast are all gilt throughout, with the body being carved to appear as if it is hairy. This item is stood atop a short pedestal that is flat on the reverse as it is meant to be against a wall, it cannot stand up on its own. The rear of the piece is affixed with a brass ring from which it can be hung on a wall. H: 28 1/4 in., (71.8 cm.); W: 18 1/2 in., (47 cm.); D: 7 3/4 in., (19.7 cm.)
