AN AUSTRIAN COLD-PAINTED BRONZE-LIDDED BOX WITH A SEATED ARAB, 19TH C. - A cold-painted, or polychrome painted, bronze sculpture mounted on a metal casket. The statue depicts a female figure resting on a Persian-styled rug, her arm outstretched holding a dish as if requesting alms. The casket dons a scrolling arabesque motif and opens up at the top with two hinges, revealing a topless wooden box inside for housing and storage. This design originates from bronze factories in Vienna, possibly from the Franz Xavier Bergmann foundry. Vienna, 19th century. Dimensions: 3 5/8 x 6 1/4 x 5 3/8 in., (9.2 x 15.9 x 13.7 cm.)
