A GRECO-ROMAN STYLE MARBLE CASKET WITH SCULPTURAL RELIEF, C. 19TH CEN. - A beautiful marble casket in the Greco-Roman style with a relief carving of a female shepherd in repose, her staff in hand, with a basket and tree nearby. The sides are affixed with rings being held in lions' mouths. The stone base is set atop four bronze lion paws, its underside being marked with the number '18'. The lid of the casket is affixed with a lathe-turned stone jasper handle. Continental Europe, c. 19th century. Dimensions: 9 x 5 1/2 x 10 5/8 in., (22.9 x 14 x 27 cm.)
