A LARGE TURKISH OR PERSIAN HAND-HAMMERED ROUND WALL PLAQUE WITH A BATTLE SCENE, 19TH CEN. - A large hand-hammered round wall plaque which appears to be of either Turkish or Persian origin. The plaque is decorated along its rim with 6 chased scenes alternating with extremely intricate foliate repousse sections. The center of the shield is chased with a scene from a battle, with clouds of dust billowing and weapons strewn about the ground. The scenes on the rim depict, starting clockwise from the top, the profile of a bearded man, a warrior on horseback being shot with an arrow to the face, an old warrior dying while someone cradles his head, a building that is possibly a mosque, a warrior stabbing another on the ground, and a lion-helmeted warrior on horseback with a bow in his hand.
