A SALVATOR ROSA (1615-1673) ETCHING OF BATTLING TRITONS, C. 1660 - An etching by the famed Italian artist Salvator Rosa (1615-1673) depicting many tritons battling each other in the sea, some with their scaly bodies showing above the waves, and their odd horse-like legs emanating forth, the soaked hair draping like tattered rags. The artist's etched signature can be seen at the lower right of the piece. The verso bears what appears to be an old archival mark. Naples, Italy, c. 1660. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
