A COLORED PORTRAIT ENGRAVING OF FIELD MARSHAL KUTUZOV, RUSSIAN, EARLY 19TH CEN. - An engraved portrait of Prince Mikhail Kutuzov, also known as 'The Fox of the North', who was one of the greatest Field Marshals in Russian history. He fought in three wars against the Turks, was shot in the head twice in the 1770s and 1780s and survived, and went on to battle Napoleon on many occasions, eventually forcing him out of Russia for good. This particular colored engraving is of French origin, and must have been published after 1812 when Kutuzov received his promotion to Field Marshal and title of 'Knyaz' or 'Prince'.
