A SIGNED ENGRAVED PORTRAIT OF PRINCE ALEXANDER GORCHAKOV, 19TH CEN. - An engraved portrait of Alexander Gorchakov (written here as Gortchacow), the most important of 19th-century Russian statesmen. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1856 until 1883 and was appointed Chancellor of the Russian Empire in 1863, remaining in that office until his death in 1884. He was the last Chancellor of the Russian Empire, the position being abolished by the Soviets in 1917. This particular portrait bears an inscription and the signature of Gortchacow at the bottom; 'Tout a vous (Yours truly)/2 June 64/=Gortchacow'. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
